Part of the Ave Valley, Santo Tirso was the cradle of the textile industry in Portugal. Known for its traditional sweet candies and full of history with beautiful monasteries and convents, Santo Tirso is located at a strategic point between Braga, Guimarães, Povoa de Varzim, Vila do Conde and Porto, that are all about 30 km distant from each other.

In the course of its long history, it was populated by a series of cultures that include the Romans, Suebs, Visigoths and Moors and you can felt it while walking around the city. Is a regional economic hub with a strong wine industry- Dão, surrounded by an incredible number of mountains - Leomil, Montemuro, Lapa, Arada, Estrela and Caramulo - the tops of which are covered with thick layers of snow in winter time, and crossed by a network of rivers and streamlets.
