Aesculap wins Red Dot Award for Basic orthopaedic instruments
Recognized with a design award: the Aesculap AG, a subsidiary of B. Braun Melsungen AG, received together with its partner, the design agency WILDDESIGN®, a Red Dot Award: Product Design 2019. In the "Medical Devices and Medical Technology" product category, the jury found the SQ.line® basic orthopaedic instrument set to be particularly impressive due to its ergonomic and sustainable properties as well as its particularly precise and careful manufacture.
The instruments are made exclusively out of stainless steel and are used in orthopaedics for hip and knee endoprosthetics. These procedures are also physically strenuous for the orthopaedist and can put a great strain on his musculoskeletal system when performed daily. The ergonomically designed SQ.line® instruments reduce pressure points and joint stress for the user. That minimizes the risk of stress pain. The design offers a good grip due to flowing rounded shapes as well as large and structured gripping surfaces. The result: less effort for a secure grip during use.
“The focus in the development of the instruments was on making it easy for hospital staff to use them in everyday clinical practice. We also have put emphasis on making these reusable surgical instruments easy to clean. For example, we were able to significantly reduce the difficult-to-view surfaces of the double-translated forceps. This makes visual inspection faster and easier”, explains Markus Nesper, project manager at SQ.line®.
With SQ.line®, Aesculap introduces a new design language for basic orthopaedic instruments. The market launch in Germany will start in the 4th quarter of 2019.
