Accelerator Demo Day: Innovative Solutions for B. Braun
On Thursday, November 14th, B. Braun hosted the second Accelerator Demo Day at the Stadtwald plant in Melsungen.
In short pitches to roughly 180 guests, nine start-ups presented their innovative solutions, which they had adapted to specific needs and tested together with different corporate divisions over the past six months. They were previously selected for the B. Braun Accelerator Program within the scope of 81 video conferences and amongst a total of 387 applicants.
“After the first B. Braun Accelerator focused primarily on product innovations in the area of ambulatory care, the focus this year was on the innovative advancement of internal processes and technologies," underlined Alexander Katzung, Vice President Acceleration & Innovation, at the beginning of the event. The main focus was on minimizing costs and time expenditure, optimizing quality, and increasing profitability.
In seven-minute pitches, the start-ups presented the results of the pilot projects. The solutions ranged from mobile sensors for the visualization and analysis of manual work processes to a software that displays the location of goods in real time, predicts delivery dates, and makes delivery processes more transparent for companies and customers, all the way to a chatbot – a system that answers frequently asked questions from employees.
“At B. Braun, we are hungry for innovation, so the venue is very appropriate,” explained Member of the Management Board Dr. Meinrad Lugan, as he got the guests in the mood for the event which took place at the company restaurant. “In some 60 percent of all cases, an innovation in the medical technology industry comes from external expertise outside the company," according to Lugan. Medical technology is a highly innovative industry and the B. Braun Accelerator Demo Day is a prime example of this.
The presentation of the start-ups was followed by a panel discussion during which representatives of innovative companies and universities discussed the success factors for the introduction of digital innovations. At the concluding opening of the Demo Zone, the audience had the opportunity to exchange ideas with the founders and B. Braun employees and to learn more about the submitted ideas, solutions, and the further development steps.
